There's A God Out There

She had given up all hope
Swallowed the pills,
Cried till she slept
Gave up on thrills

She woke the next day,
With tears in her eyes,
Not yet 16 years old
All she spoke was lies

She took the pills with no pain
Blamed her own brain,
Told no one about her struggles,
Didn’t want no troubles,

He is listening
He is crying tears for you,
He is dying,
Listening to you,

Cut her skin so deep,
Now not only her eyes weep
Dying to die,
Wanting eternal sleep

Seventeen came,
Addictions still strong,
Forgot how to be clean,
Been high for so long

To everyone’s surprise
She had pain in her eyes,
Though she wouldn’t share,
People did care

You say you don’t deserve it,
He knows you’re worth it
On his hunt for you,
He won’t forfeit

The principal confronted
Though she just dodged,
Threw the bone in the other direction,
Left no time for self-reflection

When eighteen came,
The bottle became her life
Drinking all day,
And crying all night

No happiness in sight
She put up no fight
Drifted away,
Died every day

When nineteen rolled around
She was nowhere to be found
No more hopelessness
Instead contentedness

No more lingering in fear
She cried no more tears
No longer a mess,
Lost herself in happiness

He held my hand,
Helped me make it through,
There’s a God out there,
And he loves you
