Dreams

As children we are told who and what we can be
We are told what we can achieve
The adults tell us we can be-
Be an astronaut or a sailor on the sea

They enable our minds, yes,
We are told to try and that we will be blessed
Adults refuse to tell us about the stress
And that our hearts will more than once beat loudly in our chests

We are never told about the unavoidable pain
Or that the occasional day might be mundane
They forget to tell us of the strain
Yet they tell us that we won’t get anywhere without using our brain

As children we are told who and what we can be
We are told what we can achieve
The adults tell us we can be-
Be an astronaut or a sailor on the sea

There’s a catch to this you’ll see
The adults never tell you who you never want to be
A person fearing an unthinkable jubilee
A child that continually tries to clean up the debris

We grow up knowing that we can
And fail- left without a back up plan
Left to look back to where life began
All we know is that we can’t

As children we are told who and what we can be
We are told what we can achieve
The adults tell us we can be-
Be an astronaut or a sailor on the sea
