This is a rhetorical question, but why is everybody putting so much pressure on girls to look beautiful and flawless these days? Its hard enough to be a girl anyways, why make it harder? All you end up with is depressed, suicidal, and eating disorder ridden females. It is horrible, and you may assume that it only affects certain people, but it really doesn’t. It affects all races, ages, from little girls to old ladies, it is so sad. We see this pressure working everyday. On the computer, on the television, on busses, in our real life, we are told that to succeed in this world, we have to look magnificent, and that we have to be beautiful, thin, have nice hair, nice teeth, ect. I am not going to say that looks don’t matter, but there are things that matter more, such as personality, heart, caring. If you look at all those things, don’t you think that outer beauty kinda pales in comparison? It does in my mind, and should in yours. I mean, look at your life, look at yourself. Hasn’t the beauty industry gone way to far to make us girls feel uncomfortable in our own skin just to get us to cave in and use all their unnecessary products. Think about the ads you see throughout the day. Look at those products, all making us think we need them, making us feel to big getting us to buy diet pills that hurt our health, make us buy all these concealers and foundations to cover what we really look like. All we are doing is putting on a mask. Would you rather feel totally comfortable in your own skin and spend five minutes in front of the mirror, or feel vulnerable and uneasy, and rely on pounds of makeup to make you feel confident? Personally, I choose the first. Which also takes some adjustments, as people are not always kind about it, but a little makeup is all you really need. Why cover your natural beauty to look plastic? The beauty industry tries its hardest to make us feel bad to buy their products, leaving us empty-handed, and hating our appearance. Conning innocent and naturally beautiful people into buying diet pills that harm our health, and makeup that will make our skin worse, all that beauty does is hurt. Why sacrifice all that, if we don’t have to? Just to be beautiful, right? Why? What’s the point. We only live once, why not just have fun. It saddens me to know that there are people out there that succumb to the pressure, because they have such low self esteem. Just give yourself a break, YOU ARE ALL BEAUTIFUL!!

BTW, your post on Beauty Industry Pressure rings true. I hope that by sharing personal stories and opinions about the harm that we impose on ourselves and others as a result of media advertising, will make everyone stop and think and take off their masks.
ReplyDeleteThankyou so much :) I made this for a personal project I am working on, and thought this would be good on my blog. I really wanted to get out that it is a huge problem, and it. Things that I am passionate about, I can write about, and this is one of my more passion filled topics, along with my english assignment.
ReplyDeleteYou're welcome, Megan. It is an honour to be invited to comment on your personal writing, thoughts, and opinions. Thank you for that.
